Have you still got 'Complex Simiplicity' in your CD player? That shit still gets rotation from me years after its release, which is a big look these days.
Teedra has been working on her sophmore release 'The Young Lioness' for a hot minute, but now we have an indication that the wait is almost over.
'So Kool' was premiered over at ConcreteLoop and then on Teedra's Myspace and I had to rip it (sorry). Its different from the material on Teedra's 1st album but still essentially Teedra. I'm glad to hear she hasn't compromised her sound and done any foolishness like put The Dream on a track lol
A lot of new riddims which are coming out now are just old ones tweaked a bit (martial arts riddim > self defence riddim etc..). While this was refreshing for a minute, its now becoming a bit dead and meaningless. The 85 Riddim was crafted from the 1st digitally made dancehall riddim, but all these other ones are just being made for the sake of it.
On a positive note, Ward 21 seem to be killing it with their recent sounds, they know what type of bass would really freeze a dance.
There's loadsa tunes I wanna post but haven't and now its like, shame they're a bit old.
Anyway, I had the pleasure of seeing Alicia Keys live a couple of days ago and let me tell whoever's reading that it was amazing. Her set was well put together (bar a few tunes she could have left out) and she included some nice interpolations (like Get Your Freak On during Ghetto Story and Step In The Name of Love during Unbreakable..I think). But her vocals were on point, she looked good and her backing singers were fucking on point, so much so they did a few solo's when Alicia went backstage to jam.
So when they talk about Gucci 'rags' they're actually talking about scarfs. Is subject matter so scarce that dudes are having to talk about their handbags manbags? Gimme Rubber Band Man anyday over this.
